Italian Journalist Mario Sconcerti: “Roberto Mancini Should Stay, It’s Not The Time To Start Over”

Italian journalist Mario Sconcerti has said that former Inter coach Roberto Mancini should stay as the Italy coach, according to a report in the Italian media today.
As was said by the journalist whilst writing for Corriere della Sera, it is not necessary right now to get rid of Roberto Mancini and start all over again.
Roberto Mancini is of course the coach who was in charge when Italy won Euro 2020 last year, beating England in the final at Wembley.
“The first thing to avoid now is Mancini’s Great Gesture. Martyrs are not needed now, and not even exasperated gentlemen. I tell Mancini that it’s not his fault. That it would be a useless sacrifice. If he wants to leave, go, if someone wants to kick him out, you kick him out.
“But his duty is with the people, a relationship built in dozens of matches without defeat, of roots, even of a lot of rhetoric, everyone has always said that this project was not for one night, that it is right to go forward.
“His Italy was the only success in the midst of twelve years of terrible defeats and mockery of all our football. We don’t always need to start over.”
Mario Sconcerti went on to say that the blame for this World Cup failure can not be solely laid at the feet of Roberto Mancini, it is the fault of the entire football system in Italy that has been faltering for many years now.
“It was not the coach who was wrong, it is our whole football system that can no longer hold up, that makes too much effort. The idea of football that was built for all of us by very few people, this kind of Italian super league where many rights are cancelled and nothing is ever really discussed or changed.
“We are in a desert where the Tartars are arriving, still six months and the companies will no longer be Italian-majority. We need continuous re-foundations, continuous new laws that stop new problems for six months.”
Italy’s hopes of playing at the 2022 Qatar World Cup in the winter were ended last night when they lost 1-0 against North Macedonia in Palermo to a late goal.
