The Lega Serie A has released audio from the controversial decision by VAR not to award a penalty to Torino against Inter for Andrea Ranocchia’s challenge on Andrea Belotti.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the audio reveals that VAR official Davide Massa told Marco Guida that the Inter defender had won the ball in the incident.

There had been significant controversy in Italian media after the incident of the non-penalty call, with many commentators pointing out the Ranocchia had clearly made contact with the Torino captain but not with the ball.

On-pitch official Guida had seen the incident and felt that the Nerazzurri man had gotten a piece of the ball, and as the released audio has revealed, Massa wrongly confirmed this to him, and this is why he did not point to the spot.

In the audio, Massa emphasizes to Guida that Ranocchia appears in his view to win the ball and tells him to play on.
