Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is aiming to prove his status as a top player by bagging his first league goal against Juventus on Sunday.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Argentine is working hard and determined to repay the faith of the team by inspiring them to a crucial victory.

Martinez had scored from the spot in the Nerazzurri’s 2-1 win over the Bianconeri in the Supercoppa Italiana in January, but after this endured a miserable run without being able to find the back of the net.

The 24-year-old seemed to put this behind him to an extent with his hat-trick against Salernitana and well-taken goal against Liverpool, but questions remain nevertheless.

Additionally, Martinez has never scored against the Bianconeri, one of Inter’s great domestic rivals, and not having yet done so weighs heavily for the Argentine.

The major contract extension given to Martinez in the fall shows that the club consider him a top-level player, and he is aiming to show that he can be at his best in score even in the most difficult matches against the strongest opposition.
