Former AC Milan, Real Madrid, and England head coach Fabio Capello believes that Inter are not in a serious decline but that their match against Juventus this weekend will likely be decisive.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, Capello gave the view that there is no clear favourite in the Scudetto race and that this weekend could be a major turning point.

The Nerazzurri have suffered a dramatic drop-off in their form since the beginning of February, which has caused them to lose what looked to be a firm grasp on the top of the Serie A table to find themselves trailing.

However, the gap remains just a few points especially if they win their game in hand against Bologna, and a turnaround in momentum could quickly make the struggles of the past few months look like a temporary bump in the road.

Sunday’s away match against the Bianconeri provides an opportunity to get right back into form and confidence, but as Capello cautions, also the possibility of further dropping points and momentum.

Asked if there is a favourite in the Scudetto chase, he said “None, there are four teams chasing it each with a 25 percent chance.”

On the decline of Inter he said, “Another exaggeration. I don’t see them as a team in decline. Inter will recover, but a lot will depend on Sunday’s match against Juve.”

“A draw would be a defeat for both,” he went on, “so I think the coaches will throw everything they have at it. Juve, being behind in the standings, will have to risk more, but not even Inter can afford a draw. The gaps are minimal.”
