Italian journalist Matteo Barzaghi believes that a club in the Premier League is the likeliest to sign Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca in the summer transfer window.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, Barzaghi reported that his sources have suggested that an English team could be the favourite for the 23-year-old’s and that bringing him in could be financially difficult for Inter.

Inter have been the team most heavily linked with Scamacca for the summer transfer window, but it remains to be seen if they will be able to meet the Neroverdi’s valuation for him given their financial objectives.

If the 23-year-old’s valuation continues to rise based on this campaign then he could well be bound for one of the European game’s financial elite.

As Barzaghi explained, there is still a route for the Nerazzurri to sign Scamacca especially if they make a player-plus-cash offer, but in his view they are not necessarily favourites as reported elsewhere.

“My sources tell me an English club are in pole position,” he said. “Sassuolo’s valuation is too high, even for Inter.”

“If there were a possibility of having a player go the other way it would become more viable,” he added, going onthat “I wouldn’t underestimate his statements that he is open to an experience abroad.”
