Sesto San Giovanni Mayor Roberto Di Stefano has given confirmation that there will be space available for Inter and AC Milan to build a new stadium in the area should they decide to change their plans.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Affaritaliani.it, the Mayor stressed that there is indeed space for the stadium amid rumours that the clubs could decide to relocate to the area rather than build in place of the existing San Siro.

Reports from the Gazzetta dello Sport earlier today suggested that the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri are seriously considering changing their stadium plans from demolishing the existing San Siro and using the area to relocating.

These reports have been met with denials from the city of Milan and Mayor Beppe Sala, but Di Stefano was keen to stress that, should the clubs be considering moving their new stadium, Sesto San Giovanni would work as a backup option.

“The space for the new stadium in Sesto San Giovanni is there and is available,” he said, “but in order to make a decision of this nature, there needs to be agreement between three parties – the municipality, the owners, and the clubs.”
