Former AC Milan, Juventus, and Napoli striker Jose Altafini feels that the Scudetto race has no clear favourite in it.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, Altafini also suggested that Inter’s Serie A clash with Juventus this weekend could be decisive for the title.

A total of seven points separate the top four, with the Nerazzurri in third but having a game in hand on all three rivals.

A win over Juventus would see them increase their advantage over the Bianconeri while keeping pace at the top, but a loss would see them fall into fourth place at least before playing their game in hand.

The Rossoneri and the Parenopei are both in similar situations, and Altafini feels that given how finely poised things are it would be impossible to clearly identify a favourite.

“Honestly, I don’t see one team having a better chance than the others,” he said, “everything is still very open. There are still a number of matches to be played, and so I can’t name a favourite.”

He went on that “The chances of running away with it are scarce given how balanced things are. But let’s catch up after the next round of matches, Napoli face Atalanta in Bergamo and Juventus against Inter could be decisive.”
