Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has said that being named the Turkish Player of 2021 will motivate him even more, according to a report in the Turkish media.

Speaking to the Turkish press at the award ceremony, via FCInternews, the talented midfielder explained that the award makes him remember the responsibility he has toward the Turkish people when he represents them for the national team and for his club teams.

“This award made me proud. It reminded me of how great my responsibility is toward the Turkish people. This award will motivate me more.”

Turkish football is not in the best place right now because, like Italy, they failed to qualify for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. They lost their playoff match against Portugal which meant they then had to play a match against Italy.

That ended 3-2 to the Azzurri after a brace from Sassuolo forward Giacomo Raspadori. Hakan Calhanoglu had two excellent efforts from range saved by his old teammate at AC Milan, Gianluigi Donnarumma.

He is expected to start in midfield for Inter against Juventus on Sunday.
