Cameroon coach Rigobert Song has said that too many people have criticised future Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana, according to a report in the Cameroonian broadcast media.

Speaking after Cameroon beat Algeria to book their place at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, via FCInternews, Rigobert Song explained that Andre Onana is one of the most experienced players in the squad who has experience of big games like that one.

“André is one of the most experienced players of the team, one of those who has experience of similar matches.”

Andre Onana has recently returned to playing regular football after serving a nine-month suspension for a doping violation. He has understandably been a bit rusty and has made a couple of errors which has led many to criticise him.

Rigobert Song thinks that the criticism is unfair and says that against Algeria he showed that he can do what is expected of him as a goalkeeper.

“In recent months he has been criticised by too many people, he was accused in particular of showing little attention. With Algeria he showed that he is essentially human. And that at the same time, he remains capable of what is expected of him.”

Andre Onana has not officially signed for Inter but it is known that the agreement is in place for the free transfer in the summer.
