Former Inter, Parma, and Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey believes that the quality of Inter’s squad should mean that they can be decisive in key moments.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, Frey looked ahead to the Nerazzurri’s match against Juventus tomorrow and gave the view that the key players in the team must stand up to be counted.

Inter will feel that they have enough quality in their squad to go all the way in the Serie A title race even with ground to make up, but that quality will have to show through in their performances.

At their best, the best traits of top-class players all over the pitch were always easy to see and were a key part of making the dominant, high-tempo style of football effective.

During the slump in form between the beginning of February and the start of the international break, this was much less the case, and Frey believes that the players in the squad must get back on track.

“There are many players who have to give more because Inter needs them,” he said. “Inter have top players and they have to make the difference.”

Of the drop-off in form by the team, he said that “I don’t know if it’s just physical or even psychological fatigue. Last year they went full throttle, this year they started out great but then they dropped off.”

“From the outside I can’t explain why but we’ll know at the end of the season when the postmortems come out,” he continued.

“Inter won the Scudetto last year and can still do it again,” he added. “As a former Nerazzurri player I hope they can start again by winning tomorrow.”

Of tomorrow’s clash with Juventus, he said that “This match is the Derby D’Italia and it’s a beautiful match to play in. Neither team can take a step wrong.”

“To keep in the running for the Scudetto Inter must win,” he opined. “It is a very delicately balanced match.”
