Inter’s Serie A clash with Juventus tomorrow evening looks to be the one matchuTomp between two genuine financial giants left in the Italian game.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who describe the fixture as Serie A’s “last €1 billion match” as the Italian top flight struggles financially.

The total combined value of the Nerazzurri’s and the Bianconeri’s squad exceed €1 billion, a reflection of the prestige and spending power that each club still has even despite their recent financial restrictions.

The Nerazzurri had significant upheaval in last summer’s transfer window and they are not done with their project of trimming the wage bill and freshening up the team, while the situation at Juventus isn’t that much different.

The two great Derby D’Italia rivals are at the top of the food chain in Italian football but they have been anything but immune to the effects of falling revenues relative to the cost of footballing operations which has hit Italian football especially since the pandemic began.

Nevertheless, even while they head into the future with new financial objectives and constrained, Inter and Juventus remain two sides with strong, financially valuable squads, even in a broader European context.

Tomorrow’s Derby D’Italia clash will see two genuine heavyweights come up against each other, both in terms of the pitch and in terms of their financial stature.
