Legendary former Inter striker Alessandro Altobelli believes that the Nerazzurri should only move for Paulo Dybala this summer if they can sign him without also selling Lautaro Martinez.

Speaking to Italian news outlet FCInter1908, Altobelli gave the view that a move for Dybala would only be worth it if it did not mean sacrificing Martinez.

Dybala would be available on a free transfer this summer given that his current deal with Juventus expires at the end of June, but the 28-year-old would nevertheless represent a significant investment considering his wages.

One possibility for accommodating these wages would be to sell Martinez, with the Argentine still potentially worth a significant amount on the transfer market.

This would allow the Nerazzurri to sign a quality player in the form of Dybala, but Altobelli does not believe that it would be worth it given the loss that Martinez would represent.

Of Dybala, he said that “He is a player who, with the right coaching and mentality, can certainly win matches on his own. But I would not sacrifice Lautaro, who is extraordinary and young. He still has room to improve.”

Of the Nerazzurri’s return from the international break, he said that “The break was well-placed for Inter, if they’re the team they’ve looked like recently life will be difficult for them in Turin against a Juventus side who haven’t lost for months.”

“If, on the other hand, Inter returns at their best they can certainly achieve a result,” he added.

Of coach Simone Inzaghi, he said that “He’s doing a good job. It’s his first season, you can’t expect the world. I would extend with him, especially because another coach would bring different ideas and maybe ask for other players, so it’s better to keep him and go on with the project.”

He argued that “This must be a starting point to build a winning team.”

Of midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, he said that “There are few players like him at this moment. Inter doesn’t have a player with the same characteristics in the squad, so difficulties are inevitable in his absence.”

And of the reported desire of Romelu Lukaku to return to Inter from Chelsea, he said that “Technically he’s a player who did really well at Inter, but he didn’t leave a great impression in the memory with how he left.”

“Nevertheless, I would bring him back,” he added, “even if I’d forbid him to kiss the shirt and other things like that. He’s professional and as such he must be treated as one, but don’t say he’s an Interista.”
