Former Roma midfielder Stefano Impallomeni feels that Inter had to rely on a stout defensive performance and a bit of luck to win 1-0 against Juventus on Sunday evening.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, the former midfielder suggested that the Nerazzurri had not been the better side but still managed to come away with an important result.

Inter did not enjoy anything like their usual control of possession or their normal capacity to create goalscoring chances against the Bianconeri.

It was the home side who pushed high up to try and force the issue and get into dangerous positions and who saw much more of the ball over ninety minutes.

However, the Nerazzurri managed to keep the Bianconeri from turning any of their possession into a goal, and they took the lead through a penalty at the end of the first half to ensure that they took three points with them back to Milan.

“Based on the run of play Juve would have deserved much more, but Inter played a stoic game, one of sacrifice, and benefited from some luck going in their favour,” he said. “It was immediately clear that the day was a favourable one for them.”

“The penalty incident had an impact, and then the defense was important,” he added.
