Milan Mayor Beppe Sala has stated that Inter and AC Milan have not yet given a dossier of their plans for a new stadium in Milan ahead of the looming public debate on the matter.

Speaking to the press as reported by Calcio e Finanza, Sala gave an update on the new stadium process and explained that the city has not yet received the updated plans from the club.

The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri will have to wait until a public debate process has been completed on the impact of their proposed new stadium to replace the San Siro before they can begin construction.

The clubs are cooperating in the process and will have to give detailed plans on the project to the city in order to facilitate the debate.

As Sala explained, these plans have not yet been received, though it remains to be seen when they will.

“The teams have not yet presented the project,” he said. “After that it will be necessary to work out the method of compensation, we need to understand the numbers better [regarding CO2 emissions].”

“The public debate is not something useless and rhetorical,” he continued, “it is to make the city aware of the pros and cons, of the reasons why they want to make a new stadium.”

“I just want to underline that the public debate is also an opportunity for the clubs to explain their rationale,” he added.

“We will do it in the best possible way,” the Mayor said. “I understand that we have to look to do it as quickly as possible, but we have to respect the rules.”
