Inter’s clash with Juventus in the Derby D’Italia is a match which is infamous for controversy and contested referees, and has had a number of well-remembered penalties awarded during its history.
The last few editions of the fixture have seen an unusually high number of penalties awarded, however, even by the standards of meetings between the two teams.
As football statistics account Opta highlighted in a tweet, in just the last three Serie A clashes between the teams, five spot kicks have been awarded, two to the Nerazzurri and three to the Nerazzurri.
The tweet reads, “5 – There have been five penalties taken in the last three Serie A meetings between Juventus and Inter, one more than in the previous 29 matches between these two sides in the competition. VAR.”
