Sesto San Giovanni Mayor Roberto Di Stefano believes that his town would be able to support a new stadium for Inter and AC Milan.

Speaking to reporters, via FCInterNews, Di Stefano listed some reasons why he feels the area would be a viable setting for the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri to build their new stadium as the two clubs reportedly consider building outside the city of Milan.

Inter and Milan are continuing to face bureaucratic hurdles towards getting total approval to start construction of their new stadium.

The clubs see the new stadium as necessary for remaining competitive at the elite level, and feel that there is no time to waste on working towards its construction, and so the delays are a point of significant frustration for them.

Should they feel that the delays are extending the timeline on the existing plans to build within the city of Milan, the clubs could scrap these plans and then decide to build elsewhere, in which case Di Stefano feels that his town could offer them the right location.

“Sesto has all the services that Milan can offer, though they must get past the idea that everything ends at the city limits,” he said. “We have the largest unused areas in Europe, three metro stops and two under construction.”

“In a quarter of an hour you can reach the Duomo and Linate,” he added. “It can be the same as the English model – several Premier League clubs have relocated to various districts around London.”

“This would also possible here as far as metropolitan coordination,” he suggested.

Di Stefano stated that “Sesto offers wider spaces and an urban regeneration unique in Europe. The territorial governance plan allows for a certain flexibility as far as a stadium being built here.”

“There are the elements and timelines for there to be a certainty of investment,” he added.
