Former Lazio midfielder Marco Parolo has said that Hakan Calhanoglu and Nicolo Barella are perfect for Marcelo Brozovic but Inter have no alternatives in midfield, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

Speaking during an interview with Corriere della Sera, Marco Parolo explained that the balance if Inter’s midfield is very good with Simone Inzaghi’s first-choice players as they compliment each other well.

“He is the pivot. He gives balance in the game and in the recovery of the ball. Barella and Calhanoglu are perfect for him.”

He then pointed out what many at Inter are painfully aware of. Inter have a lack of quality depth in the midfield as the others in the squad are not close to the level of the starters.

“The real problem at Inter is that they have shown that they have no quality alternatives. Beyond those three, there are no men capable of replacing them at the same levels, it can be a problem for the run-in.”

One issue even with Inter’s starting midfielders is that they do not score many goals. He specifically mentions Nicolo Barella who assists a lot but does not score many goals.

“Barella assists but scores little. Inter depend a lot on Brozovic and the forwards, potentially they can score a lot of goals, but they fell into poor form.”

Inter hope to sign Sassuolo’s Davide Frattesi this summer to bring some more young quality to the midfield.
