Italian journalist Paolo Condo believes that at this point there is no reason for Romelu Lukaku to stay at Chelsea past the end of the season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Condo gave the view that if the Belgian is not a major part of the team’s plans on the pitch, their best course of action would be to cut their losses, amid links to Inter for the player.

Lukaku has not enjoyed his time at Chelsea since making his blockbuster move from the Nerazzurri last summer, struggling for form and playing time under coach Thomas Tuchel.

The player’s situation is an awkward one given that the size of the investment in him by the Blues means that they may be reluctant to let him go unless it were to be for a substantial fee.

However, in the view of Condo, things have gotten to the point where Lukaku’s presence at the London club is untenable.

“There’s a technical incompatibility with Tuchel, so it makes no sense to continue,” he said. “For this reason the club will try to get backat least a substantial part of the money invested, not under the illusion of fully returning their investment.”
