Inter legend Beppe Bergomi has said that he thinks Simone Inzaghi has still done a great job at Inter despite much criticism in recent weeks, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media last night.

Speaking after the Europa League and Europa Conference League matches on Thursday on Sky Sport, via FCInternews, the former Inter defender explained that when you take into account the events of last August, Simone Inzaghi has still done a good job at Inter.

“With Inter I go a bit against the tide and I think he has done well because I always start from August, where Inter started from and the changes they have made. When they played well they became the favourite but in my opinion they were overperforming.

“So he did a great job. Then everyone has moments of crisis, maybe Pioli and Spalletti managed it better and he instead made a little more effort, but he always remains positive.”

Inter sold Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku in the summer as well as losing Christian Eriksen through health reasons. Many felt that reaching the top four would be a huge ask for Inter but they are still in the title race in mid-April.

In terms of which of the top three teams has the best run of fixtures to try and win Serie A, Beppe Bergomi feels that there is no easy calendar anymore.

“The last few days have made us understand that there is no favourable or less favourable calendar. I didn’t think Bologna could stop Milan, every game poses its own pitfalls. It depends on how you think, the head commands the body. It depends a lot on how lightly you are going to face the matches.”
