Inter defender Federico Dimarco is pleased to have helped the team to an important three points against Hellas Verona in Serie A earlier this evening.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the 24-year-old stressed that the team needed to get the result to keep pace and build momentum at the top end of the Serie A table.

Dimarco was a surprise start in the Nerazzurri’s backline, entrusted to play ahead of Alessandro Bastoni, and he did not disappoint.

The 24-year-old showed his quality on the ball against a team where he had spent two seasons on loan and earned a move back to the Nerazzurri, whilst he helped the team to a clean sheet and a dominant first half.

Dimarco was taken off for Bastoni during the second half, but not before he could help the team to a win which sees them put pressure back on AC Milan and Napoli in the Serie A title race.

“Certainly compared to other matches, apart from Juventus, we had a different approach,” he said, “we attacked all match and took home a win that was fundamentally important after the one against Juventus.”

On the clean sheet kept by the team, Dimarco said that “It’s always nice not to concede, especially if you win the match. We have to keep going like this, to work and think match by match.”

On the mental impact of having beaten Juventus, Dimarco said that “Winning against Juve in Turin is not for everyone, especially after the period of formwe were in, after the break it was a fundamental victory but today with the environment that we found we had something to lose.”

“The important thing is that we have approached this match well,”he stressed, “we attacked and brought home the result that was essential to maintain consistency.”

Of having the San Siro full to capacity again, Dimarco said that “Even though I wasn’t here last year, the stadium being without fans is bad. When you have all these fans pushing you on, playing gets easier.”
