Inter recorded their second win on the trot in the Serie A after beating Hellas Verona by 2-0 at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan’s San Siro district.
The Nerazzurri started the game well and were pressing Hellas high up the pitch creating chances but still had to wait until the 22nd minute before Nicolo Barella broke the deadlock assisted by Ivan Perisic.
The latter then assisted Edin Dzeko for Inter’s second eight minutes later after extending a Federico Dimarco corner with his head.
Simone Inzghi’s men controlled the game in the second half and went home with all three points keeping the pressure on AC Milan and Napoli in the Serie A title race.
Samir Handanovic – 6.5: Brilliant save from that Simeone toe poke and it looks like Samir has hit a purple patch of form. Moved the ball well and looked confident.
Milan Skriniar – 7.5: Another game and another 90 minutes of world class defending from Skriniar. Looks unbeatable and was always one step ahead of everyone.
Stefan De Vrij – 6: Welcome back Stefan. Nice game for him to come back as Inter did not really let Verona threaten much. Hopefully taken off as a precaution.
Federico Dimarco – 6.5: Lots of Interisti were surprised when Dimarco was named as a starter. Played his best game in a very long time. That run deserved more.
Denzel Dumfries – 6: Typical Denzel performance. Stable in the few mins he had to defend and always looked to stretch the Verona. A bit indecisive in attack.
Nicolo Barella – 7: Is Inter even hosting Hellas if Barella does not score a well taken goal? Made the goal look extremely easy and hassled and harried Tudor’s team.
Marcelo Brozovic – 7: Must be a joy playing with Brozovic. Was always there to cover up any mistake that was made. Makes playing that role seem like child’s play.
Hakan Calhanoglu – 6.5: The goal against Juve has given him a jolt. Ran a lot and made some important tackles. Provided the usual quality in build-up and set pieces.
Ivan Perisic – 7.5: Bossed that left flank with Dimarco and made life difficult for Faraoni. Deserved a lot more than two assists Did not play well as a 2nd striker.
Edin Dzeko – 6.5: Well taken goal. Edin always tries to get himself involved in the build-up play and looked a lot more comfortable and in tune with Correa.
Joaquin Correa – 6: Used the space left by the Verona midfield to torment them in the first half. Played well but did not have anything to show for it. Good signs.
Danilo D’Ambrosio – 6.5: Brought on at half time to replace De Vrij and help Inter manage the game. Had a few runs forward and was denied a goal by a brilliant save.
Robin Gosens – 6: Still finding his feet at Inter. Got to play 30 mins but Inter were just looking to play the game out and preserve their clean sheet by then.
Arturo Vidal – 5.5: Not sure that Arturo got anything right apart from the chance he created for Danilo. Looked like a liability on the ball for the other 25 minutes.
Alessandro Bastoni – 6: Took time to get the pace of the game and looked like he was recovering from a knock A couple of minor mistakes that did not cost much.
Roberto Gagliardini – N/A: Thrown on to bring some steel in the midfield as Hakan and Brozo were tiring. His pressing almost created a chance close to full time.
Simone Inzaghi – 6.5: Perfect game plan. The decision to start Dimarco paid huge dividends in the first half. Managed the 2nd half with well-timed substitutions.
Livio Marinelli – 6.5: Let a lot of minor fouls go and made sure the game was not interrupted for long periods. Got the bookings right and kept it all under control
Inter – 7: A week is a very long time in football, Inter is proof of that. The squad looked confident and hungry. Everyone was in tune with each other.
