Former AC Milan, Fiorentina, and Italy striker Alberto Gilardino feels that the current Serie A title race is the most exciting of any in recent seasons.

Speaking to Naples-based newspaper Il Mattino in an interview published in today’s print edition, the World Cup winner suggested that this season the fight for the Scudetto is completely unpredictable.

Inter are in with a decent chance of winning the Scudetto, but they will have to fend of the competition of AC Milan and Napoli, both of whom have shown the form to push them all the way.

Throughout the season, each of the three sides have had moments where they have looked like they could pull away from their rivals at the top, but none have managed to sustain this for a lengthy spell.

Inter enjoyed an eight-match winning run in November and December to go clear at the top but then found themselves chasing again as a result of their poor form in February and March, though now they are right back in it.

Gilardino stated that “This is the best title race I can remember, anyone could win it. We’re having the most enjoyable and fun season I can recall.”

“Anyone can win it,” he reiterated, “Milan, Napoli, or Inter. Those who have cool heads will win. The difference will be made by the details in the individual matches.”
