Italian journalist Alessandro Barbano believes that Inter could be carried by the strength of their formidable midfield to the Serie A title this season.

Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, Barbano highlighted the importance of Nicolo Barella and Marcelo Brozovic to the Nerazzurri’s push for a second consecutive Scudetto.

All three of Inter, AC Milan, and Napoli can both significant quality in central areas, and in the view of Barbano it will be this which sets the tone in the title race rather than the work of the strikers.

Nerazzurri duo Brozovic and Barella have formed, alongside Hakan Calhanoglu, an excellent trio who have been at the heart of all of the team’s most impressive form during the campaign.

Since the start of February, the Nerazzurri have not always seen the best of the duo, or have had one of the pair unavailable, but against Hellas Verona yesterday evening they looked back to their best in terms of technique, energy, and chemistry.

“It’s no coincidence that Inter return to form just when their two brilliant midfielders find fitness and clarity,” Barbano writes.

“For Brozovic, beyond the missed matches after Liverpool, there has practically never been a moment of decline,” he continues, “though it’s different story for Barella, the victim of a fluctuating season.”

“In a season without decisive strikers, this could be what decides the Serie A title, along with Inter’s smoother fixture list,” he concludes.
