Italian journalist Stefan De Grandis believes that Inter are starting to look composed and mentally strong again after a period where their mentality let them down.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, De Grandis gave the view that the Nerazzurri are starting to look more like a team who can cope with the pressure of their situation.

During Inter’s bad run of form in February and March, they often seemed to struggle with their approach especially in the start of games, and never looked as though they had full conviction pushing for results late on in matches.

The Nerazzurri’s away trip to Juventus last weekend was a massive test of the team’s psychological strength, and they managed to come away with the win from a match which required them to suffer and gut out the result.

Against Hellas Verona yesterday, Inter again looked like a team who did not feel bound up by the pressure to get the result, and their freer mentality was reflected in a performance which looked composed in all areas of the pitch.

“Inter have rediscovered mental strength,” De Grandis, “the kind that had disappeared. They’ve flicked the switch back on that had fatally been turned off in the last twenty minutes of the derby.”

“Inter found themselves once again fighting for a title which they had thought they had already won, they lost the joy and energy coming from key players,” he continued.

“After the victory with Juve, the switch has returned to the on position,” he concluded. “All the key players who had lost their electricity have found it again.”
