Former Feyenoord, NAC Breda, and Nottingham Forest striker Pierre van Hooijdonk feels that goalkeeper Andre Onana has spoken disrespectfully about Ajax ahead of his summer move to Inter.

Speaking to Dutch broadcaster NOS, the 52-year-old was critical of the comments that Onana made recently regarding his relationship with supporters of the Dutch champions.

Onana has received some boos and negative reception from Ajax fans in recent matches when he has started for the Amsterdam-based club, with fans not happy with the fact that he will be leaving on a free transfer this summer.

It has long been widely reported that the Cameroonian is destined to join Inter for next season, with the Nerazzurri having identified him as the preferred long-term successor to Samir Handanovic.

Onana recently responded to some of the negative reception from Ajax fans, making clear that he doesn’t care if fans choose to be unhappy with him, and van Hooijdonk felt that this attitude is disrespectful.

“He said he hadn’t played for a long time and Ajax are also guilty in this respect,” the former said. “They put him in the goal, they could have even made him rot in the stands.”

“Everyone knows that he’s headed to Italy, to Inter, but he has not treated Ajax well,” he continued. “The fans were already not happy, the feeling is reinforced if a goalkeeper starts to make errors.”

He concluded that “This is a situation where a player drifts even further from his club.”
