Inter defender Stefan de Vrij could be left out of the squad to face Spezia on Friday, though only as a precaution.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the 30-year-old’s thigh problem is only minor but that he may not be risked for the team’s trip to Liguria.

De Vrij had to be substituted at halftime in the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 Serie A win over Hellas Verona over the weekend, having felt some fatigue in his left thigh.

However, the problem is less serious that it was initially feared to be, and the Dutchman should not have a lengthy recovery period from the injury.

Nevertheless, it is possible that he will be rested against Spezia to ensure that he is back fully fit in time for the team’s Coppa Italia semi-final second leg against AC Milan next week, with further important matches to come.
