Italian journalist Matteo Marani believes that Inter’s 1-0 win away to Juventus last weekend appears to have been the decisive moment in the Serie A season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Marani noted how the result already appears to have set the tone for the Scudetto race for the rest of the season.

Inter needed their first away win against the Bianconeri in almost a decade to put their miserable run of form from February and March behind them, and it was not made easy as they were dominated in midfield for long periods.

However, in the end the Nerazzurri produced a gritty backs-to-the-wall defensive performance to emerge with three points, and this has already looked significant in terms of the overall dynamics of the race based on this past weekend’s results.

Inter and Juventus both won, against Hellas Verona and Cagliari respectively, whilst Napoli lost to Fiorentina and AC Milan suffered another goalless draw, at home to Torino.

As Marani points out, “If Juve had won against Inter, they would now be just one point from top spot.”

“Inter won that game which was very important,” he continued, “it’s probably the real turning point of the season for them.”

“It’s been a very even season,” he added, “they’re all very close together.”

“I think managing their emotions will now be decisive,” Marani went on. “Now it will be up to the players and up to how the coaches can motivate their groups of soloists.”
