Legendary former Juventus forward Alessandro Del Piero believes that Inter have re-taken the mantle of favourites for the Serie A title.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the Bianconeri legend identified Inter’s style of play and experience of winning the Scudetto last season as reasons why they are the best-placed side to go all the way.
The Nerazzurri’s fate is back in their own hands for the Serie A title after they beat Hellas Verona and saw AC Milan and Napoli drop points to Torino and Fiorentina respectively over the weekend.
The remaining matches of the season will still be anything but easy, however, and all three major rivals will be hoping that they can count on their quality and winning mentality in the decisive matches.
For Del Piero, Inter are the team with the best credentials to take the points that they need over the final weeks of the season.
“For what they’ve shown during the season they’re the favourites,” he said of the Nerazzurri, “In the Champions League they went out looking good, giving a response to their defeat by Liverpool.”
“They’ve created a lot,” he continued, “Dzeko is probably worth as many goals and assists as Lukaku. It’s no coincidence that the numbers depict the Nerazzurri as the superior team.”
“As a squad they are the most balanced of everyone,” Del Piero added, “especially with the substitutes they have compared to other teams.”
He also noted that “They won it last year and some players have already experienced they dynamics, so they know how to do what they need to. This is an advantage in the season finale.”
