Milan Mayor Beppe Sala remains fully convinced that Inter and AC Milan should built their new stadium within the city and is working to make sure that they don’t build elsewhere.

Speaking in a public appearance, as reported by Calcio e Finanza, Sala stressed that he would consider it a very negative outcome if the teams were to choose to build the new stadium in Sesto San Giovanni.

The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri remain committed to trying to start construction on their new stadium as soon as possible, and they have even admitted to considering the possibility of looking outside the city if the timeline cannot be sped up.

Sala maintained the position that he has for some time, that things cannot be rushed without respect for the proper rules and protocols but that he is totally committed to getting the approval for the new stadium done in due course.

It remains to be seen if this will be quick enough for the teams’ liking or if they will continue to be pushed towards building in Sesto as an option, but Sala is hoping that it does not come to this.

“We’ll continue with our process which includes a public debate,” he said, “this is not just a decision for us, but a necessity.”

“Let’s take this step and then we’ll draw conclusions,” he continued. “It wouldn’t be a good thing if the teams decided to go to Sesto, I’m working to ensure they stay in Milan.”

“The teams are working to do something that isn’t just building, it’s an entire project,” he went on, “but I don’t want to commit them to spend millions and millions on an executive project in the absence of certainty that it will go forward – I think it will go on but there I understand it’s complicated.”
