Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is likely to be handed the start when his team travel to Liguria to face Spezia in Serie A, and he must prove himself in the appearance.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who argue that the 24-year-old must assert his quality and show that he’s the right man for the team in attack.

Martinez’s poor form in front of goal was a key part of the Nerazzurri’s decline during February and March, as he led the line but lacked much in the way of end product in most of their matches.

The Argentine missed out on the team’s 2-0 win over Hellas Verona over the weekend, and the team not only coped with his absence but put in one of their most dominant performances in a long time.

The Nerazzurri need their strikers to show both that they can play with a cutting edge in front of goal and also that their all-around play can keep the team functioning at the level that it has in matches such as their win over the Gialloblu.

Martinez will still have the opportunity to prove that he can play at this level, but he must take it starting with Friday’s match against Spezia.
