Former Italy and Torino coach Gian Piero Ventura feels that while Inter are currently the best-placed side to win the Serie A title, the twists and turns in the race are far from over.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, Ventura gave the view that the Nerazzurri are favourites for the Scudetto but only provisionally.

Inter will feel that the two matches since the international break have gone well for them, with their two wins coinciding with both AC Milan and Napoli dropping points.

The Nerazzurri are now in control of their own destiny once again, albeit in a situation where they have virtually no margin for error in their remaining matches.

Inter and all of their rivals have already shown a habit for dropping points in matches they would expect to win this season, and Ventura feels that this is not likely to stop now.

Of the Nerazzurri’s strengths, he said that “They have the strongest squad and the advantage of being Italian champions.”

“This adds a winning mentality to a well-defined style of football, to which Conte has made a contribution,” he added. “Inter have thrown away a lot of points but they’re very strong.”

As for the favourites for the title, he said that “If you’d asked me fifteen days ago, I would have bet on Napoli. Today I say Inter, because their victory in Turin has led them to once again believing that it’s possible.”

“But every weekend anything can happen,” he cautioned, “that’s the beauty of football, we have to appreciate that.”
