Inter boss Simone Inzaghi has said that Inter’s victory over Spezia exhibited maturity and clarity, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media this evening.

Speaking after the game to Sky Sport on Friday evening, via FCInternews, the coach explained that his team knew it would not be an easy game but they found a way to get all three points.

“I think it was a victory of maturity and clarity. We knew it would not be easy, we had a bit of a block in the first half. I didn’t like the first ten minutes of the second half, we gave that opportunity away. But we got an important victory.”

Two of Inter’s goals in the 3-1 victory came from Lautaro Martinez and Alexis Sanchez who came on in the second half. Simone Inzaghi says that this reflects the strength of the team when the whole squad are available.

“I think it’s important. Today for the first time in a long time I had the whole squad available. I chose two forwards, then I let two more in and then there is Caicedo who is better in the last month.”

It was pointed out to the boss that Inter have scored from crosses again but they struggled to do that at all in February.

“We like to go vertically, we created chances in the last three games we won but even when we didn’t manage to win we created lots of chances. Now we have three wins, which is normal and gives confidence for this last month of challenging games.”

Edin Dzeko and Joaquin Correa started the game in attack but were swapped in the second half for Lautaro Martinez and Alexis Sanchez. Simone Inzaghi feels the four players are compatible together in the squad.

“I think they are all compatible with each other. Dzeko and Lautaro played together for a long time, Correa did very good things before the injury.

“Each time I will try to choose the most functional couple. Sanchez and Lautaro did very well, but also Dzeko and Correa did great for 60 minutes.”

Many felt that Robin Gosens would start the game against Spezia and that Denzel Dumfries would be on the bench but Simone Inzaghi opted for a different route.

“When Gosens arrived he needed to work, now he is fine and is very ready. But then I opted for other solutions, I saw Dumfries was very tired. But he and Caicedo are very well, they give us a great hand and their time will come soon.”

Danilo D’Ambrosio came into the team in place of Stefan de Vrij and provided an assist. Simone Inzaghi is clearly happy with his performances when called upon.

“He didn’t miss a match when I called him into question. I know I can count on him as on others who don’t play a lot but always give their contribution and will be important for the rest of the season.”

When asked how he deals with the pressure of the title race, Simone Inzaghi said: “I think the pressure is always there.

“We have gone from a busy schedule with the tie with Liverpool and the derby, a period where we have lost a few points. But it is a normal path like that of the other teams that are playing for the title.”

The coach says that he will use the next three training sessions to see who will play in the derby on Tuesday.

“It is still early. A clue? There are three important training sessions and I will have to try to make the evaluations.

“The next three training sessions we will see because we will also play on Saturday and again on Wednesday, there will be room for everyone.”
