With two straight wins behind them, Inter travel to Liguria to face Spezia hoping to keep the winning streak going. Match today Friday at 19:00CET.

This is the stage of the season when every match, every point matters; and a match where the defending champions face lowly relegation battling Spezia all of the pressure is on the favorites to perform and return to Milano with all three points.

Ex-Inter legend Thiago Motta’s tenure started off very well with the him picking up Serie A manager of the month in January.

His side plays a straightforward 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 without looking to do much more than the basics well, possibly a throwback to his time as a player under Jose Mourinho at Inter.

Inter will once again will rely on the fact that their central midfield trio of Hakan Calhanoglu, Nicolo Barella and Marcelo Brozovic are fully fit firing on all cylinders, a critical component to Inter’s good form.

With Spezia expected not to play the most expansive and attacking types of football, expect Denzel Dumfries and Robin Gosens on either wing to play a pivotal role in stretching play and creating attaching chances for the team.

It is difficult to nurture a winning streak when it’s still in its infancy especially when facing a decisive underdog who’s fighting against relegation.

Inter cannot take anything for granted here, they must face this match with the same seriousness and resolve they stepped against Juventus with.

Team News

Despite Inzaghi having a full squad to choose from (De Vrij’s niggle notwithstanding) expect the tactician to implement a bit of rotation ahead of the Coppa Italia semifinal against Milan and next week’s big match against Roma.

Probable Inter line-up (3-5-2): Handanovic (C); D’Ambrosio, Skriniar, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Brozovic, Calhanoglu, Gosens; Correa, Lautaro.

Stats

Last Season: Spezia 1 – 1 Inter

Last 10 Head to Head: Since this is Spezia’s second season ever in the Serie A, there isn’t much of a record between the two sides to go back to.

Keep An Eye On

Lautaro Martinez: Inter’s top scorer so far this season has been the subject of plenty of heated debates between the Inter fans.

El Toro has been sporadic in his scoring form and hasn’t shown the consistency required for the Nerazzurri faithful to place their trust in him as the long term goal-getting solution for the club.

With talk of a summer move to Atletico Madrid, more scrutiny will be placed on the striker’s performance.
