Legendary former AC Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta feels that the best attacking duo for Inter against AC Milan in the Coppa Italia this week would be Edin Dzeko and Joaquin Correa.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Costacurta suggested that the pairing would be the most effective for the Coppa Italia semi-final second leg based on form.

Simone Inzaghi has gone with Dzeko and Correa as the starting pair in the last two league matches for the Nerazzurri, the latest pairing to be tested out extensively with plenty of chopping and changes over the course of the campaign.

Against Hellas Verona, Correa had started in place of Lautaro Martinez due to the latter’s suspension, but the 27-year-old’s start against Spezia despite Martinez being available suggests that the coach likes what he sees from the duo of him and Dzeko.

Correa and Dzeko had something of a muted effect in the final third yesterday evening, and it took Martinez and Alexis Sanchez coming on to really unlock things for the 3-1 win.

However, the balance in possession and the way that the front players link up with the midfield is different with Correa and Dzeko on the pitch, and Costacurta feels that they could be the most suited pairing to face the Rossoneri.

“In the Coppa Italia derby I’d start Dzeko and Correa, because they seem to me to be the ones who are in the best form,” he said.

And of yesterday’s win over Spezia, he highlighted the importance by stating that “It’s their third consecutive win, it sends a great message. Inter dominated.”
