Sassuolo have extended the contract of major Inter target Gianluca Scamacca, and this is in response to the transfer interest in the striker.

This according to the club’s CEO Giovanni Carnevali, who admitted that the Neroverdi have extended the striker’s deal until the end of June 2026 to secure his future and strengthen their position in negotiations for his sale.

Scamacca is reported to be one of Inter’s priority targets to strengthen their attack this summer, with the 23-year-old having the right profile to add quality in the long term and replace Edin Dzeko with a young Italian player.

The Nerazzurri have reportedly been in talks with Sassuolo to try and make progress in negotiations, though they may well have faced a setback in the form of his new deal.

Scamacca had previously been under contract with the Neroverdi until the end of June 2023, but his club will no longer be negotiating from a position where if they do not sell him he will be heading into the final year of his deal.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia before his team’s match against Cagliari earlier today, Carnevali stated that “It goes without saying that the big clubs are always looking for players.”

“We want to grow and improve,” he added, “before we sell a player we’ll think about it very carefully. If you sell your top players things get more complicated, we try to keep them close.”
