Former AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato feels that this evening’s Coppa Italia clash between the Rossoneri and Inter could be important for the Serie A title race as well.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, Pato gave the view that the teams will feel the effects of a result in this evening’s match, and that Milan could get a big lift.

Inter go into this evening’s match having won their past three matches in Serie A, whilst the Rossoneri got back to winning ways against Genoa on Friday after letting their advantage in the league slip with goalless draws against Bologna and Torino.

Both teams will know that there is no margin for error and that any one of their remaining matches in the league could be decisive for the Scudetto.

Accordingly, confidence could become an important factor in the title race, and in the view of Pato, the boost in confidence from progressing to the final could be just the thing for the needed surge in enthusiasm.

Pato foresees a “Difficult match. Milan can’t slip up, as the Scudetto is just a short distance away and Milan can win it.”

“Beating the opponents in the Italian Cup would give a team a boost of energy,” he went on.
