Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi will be going in search of his first Milan derby win when he takes on AC Milan for the fourth time this season.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who note that the coach will be aiming to put a triumph over the Rossoneri in the derby on his CV in what could be the most important derby of the season.

Inzaghi has plenty of experience both positive and negative in Rome derbies from his five seasons in charge of Lazio, and will have fond memories of his semi-final tie against the Giallorossi in 2017.

The Biancocelesti won the first leg of that tie 2-0, and even though they lost 3-2 in the return leg, their first leg victory was enough to see them through to the final, which they lost to Juventus.

Inter cannot boast the kind of first leg advantage that Lazio did in that tie, with the Nerazzurri having played out a goalless draw in the first leg of their tie against Milan at the beginning of March.

Given that the “away” goals rule is in effect in the competition, this could even hand the advantage to the Rossoneri who would go through to the final in the event of a scoring draw.

At any rate, Inzaghi will be aiming to win the match outright to get his first derby win as Inter coach at his fourth attempt, one achievement that is missing on what has otherwise been a successful first season in charge.

Apart from the first leg draw, Inzaghi’s Inter drew their first league derby 1-1, missing a penalty in the process, while a second half comeback saw the Rossoneri take all three points from the second league derby.

That lost derby at the start of February had been a major setback for Inter and a huge boost in confidence for Milan, highlighting the importance of the fixture.

Inzaghi will now be looking to get redemption by winning a derby clash at the climax of the season to give his team a much-needed boost down the stretch and check one more item off of his personal list.
