Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is hoping that this evening’s 3-0 triumph over AC Milan in the Coppa Italia can be a springboard to a completely positive end to the season.

Speaking to Italian news outlet SportMediaset after the match, the 24-year-old emphasized that now the team must push on and keep playing as they did over their remaining matches in Serie A and in the Coppa Italia final.

Inter took a big step towards one of their major objectives for the season by booking their place in the Coppa Italia final for the first time since they won the competition in 2011.

The Nerazzurri produced one of their best performances of the season to do so, as did Martinez, with the Argentine notching two goals in a whirlwind first half which saw them overwhelm their city rivals all over the pitch.

If Inter can continue to put in displays like this then they will certainly fancy their chances of winning their second Scudetto in a row, and in the final of the Coppa Italia against either Juventus or Fiorentina.

“I’m happy because we’re playing another final,” Martinez said. “We work towards this, we always want to take Inter to the top. Today we proved it again, the fans are happy. Now let’s keep looking ahead.”

The striker explained that he was very happy, “Especially because today my parents and my family were here to watch me. The goals are for them, they give me a boost and don’t let me falter.”

Of the team’s remaining matches, Martinez said that “We’re calm. We’ve dropped some big points and we have to think one match at a time. There are six to go and we must face them all as we did tonight.”
