Bologna will appeal to have the suspension of defender Gary Medel reduced from two matches to one so that he is available for their clash with Inter next Wednesday.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Rossoblu are aiming to have the ban for insulting words to an official reduced.

Medel received a red card for comments he made to match official Juan Luca Sacchi in his team’s 1-1 draw with Juventus over the weekend.

The 34-year-old had been protesting over a straight red card given to teammate Adama Soumaoro, and Sacchi felt that his comments crossed the line so handed him the red card.

In addition to Soumaoro and also Marko Arnautovic receiving one-match bans, the former for his sending-off and the latter for accumulation of yellows, Medel was handed a more harsh two-match ban as well as a €5000 fine by the league.

However, the Rossoblu feel that the two-match suspension is disproportionate to the severity of the Chilean’s comments and are hoping that they can get the ban reduced to just one match.
