Former Empoli and Siena striker Massimo Maccarone believes that Inter and AC Milan are the two teams left fighting for the Serie A title.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, Maccarone gave the view that after Napoli’s draw with Roma on Monday they are surely out of the fight for the Scudetto.

Inter, Milan, and Napoli have been the three teams who have been in the fight for the Scudetto throughout the season, and even in recent weeks this has looked to have been the case.

However, the Partenopei have stalled a bit in form recently, losing to Fiorentina before also dropping points against the Giallorossi, and this has coincided with a major upturn in form from Inter.

Now, the Nerazzurri are two points ahead of Napoli with a game in hand, whilst Milan remain at the top of the table albeit only conditionally given Inter’s game in hand.

Maccarone gave the view that “There are two teams left in it, Napoli had to win their remaining matches and hope for a misstep from Inter, and that hasn’t happened.”

He went on that “Before Juve vs. Inter I would have said Milan or Napoli. That victory gave the Nerazzurri confidence. Then again, you can never take it for granted.. look what happened to Barcelona against Cadiz.”
