Inter showed their superiority to win 3-0 over their city rivals AC Milan in yesterday evening’s Coppa Italia semi-final second leg, according to Italian media.

The Nerazzurri’s performance came in for praise in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who laud the team for showing superiority to the Rossoneri all over the pitch and suggest that this bodes well for them in Serie A as well.

Inter needed a top performance to progress to the final of the Coppa Italia, with the tie evenly poised after the first leg had finished in a goalless draw after a fairly cagey match.

The team responded with one of their most convincing displays of the season to blow their city rivals away, particularly in the first half where for the first half-hour or so they looked impossible to live with.

Simone Inzaghi got his selection decisions right, including starting Matteo Darmian and Joaquin Correa in place of Denzel Dumfries and Edin Dzeko respectively.

These moves were seen as surprises, but paid off handsomely for the coach, who showed that he’s getting a handle on how to get the best out of the squad depth that he has at his disposal.

The Nerazzurri’s win was a statement that will leave them feeling confident headed into the final of the competition against either Juventus or Fiorentina, but also over the run-in in the Scudetto race.

The outcome of the title race in Serie A is anything but guaranteed, but whereas the Rossoneri will need to pick themselves up, Inter will feel more certain of their qualities than ever.

Inter’s long moment of bad form now looks a distant memory and they’ve shown that they can use the players they have at their disposal to dominate virtually any opponent.

For the Gazzetta, the Nerazzurri are the most formidable team in Italian football at the moment and should have what it takes to make this count in the final matches of the Serie A season and in the Coppa Italia final.
