Inter wingback Robin Gosens is elated to have enjoyed his first derby victory over AC Milan since joining the Nerazzurri in January.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the German gave his immediate reaction to a match that saw him score his first goal in Inter colours and his team progress to the Coppa Italia final, calling it a “perfect evening.”

Gosens has yet to really cement a place for himself in a Nerazzurri shirt, owing partly to the impressive form that Ivan Perisic has continued to show in the left-sided wingback position that has made him hard to displace.

However, the 27-year-old has shown flashes of why the Nerazzurri signed him in substitute appearance, and arguably none were brighter than his goal to put the seal on a 3-0 victory over the Rossoneri.

Gosens has gained a reputation as a goalscoring wingback with Atalanta and the German national team, and he made his trademark run to the left far post to score and send the Inter fans at the San Siro into rapture.

“It’s an unforgettable evening for me,” he said, “we won 3-0, which we deserved on the pitch, and then scoring my first goal in a derby, it’s a perfect evening.”

“I’ve already thanked Brozovic for his assist,” he continued, “Vidal also put a great ball in through the middle, I’m happy with the goal.”

Of the result he said that “It was deserved, we played with desire and intensity, we showed it for ninety minutes, and we’re very happy to play in the final now.”

Of his observations since joining Inter, Gosens said that “There’s a great mentality, great professionalism, but also a positive environment where you work well to achieve your goals.”

“After a few days I felt at home and this is important for succeeding,” he added.

The German said that the evening felt “Like a dream. It’s been a perfect and unforgettable evening for me, it will stay with me forever, this was the first time in front of all these fans, for me it’s something that gives me joy.”
