Inter wingback Robin Gosens feels that fighting for a starting position with Ivan Perisic is something that pushes him to excel rather than a problem.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the German explained that he’s not bothered by sharing a position with Perisic who has been one of the Nerazzurri’s standout players this season.

Gosens arrived from Atalanta during the January transfer window, with coach Simone Inzaghi having asked the club to reinforce the team in the wingback position for the second half of the season.

The 27-year-old came in as the long-term successor to Perisic, but also as a player who could alternate with the Croat for the rest of the season if needed.

So far, Perisic has been very hard to displace as the 33-year-old has continued to put in very high-level performances down the left which have meant that Gosens has only managed to appear from the bench.

However, the German is not unhappy with this situation, stating that “Being at Inter is a challenge because I arrived at one of the top clubs in the world, and having a competitor in my position who’s in such good form is an extra motivation.”

“I want to play many games as does Ivan,” he added, “I think it’s a motivation for both of us.”

Of yesterday evening’s 3-0 win over AC Milan he said that “We celebrated and it’s only rightto enjoy tonight. We hope to get an extra boost to win the Scudetto.”

“Ivan is having an incredible season,” he added, “I’m working and I’m doing everything to gain minutes, and I’m happy with my first goal, in an important match and moment.”
