This according to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, who report that the official referees association has explained that in their view the decision made by Maurizio Mariani after advice from the VAR was in accordance with the rules.
The key point of contention regarding whether or not Ismael Bennacer’s effort from outside the box should have been disallowed was whether or not Pierre Kalulu was interfering with Samir Handanovic’s ability to save the shot.
There was no question that the Frenchman was standing in an offside position during the goal incident, but there was some debate with whether he was influencing play, with Milan arguing that he had no real effect.
However, the Italian referees association saw the decision as clearly correct, as they analyzed the video and determined that Kalulu was in the line of sight of the Nerazzurri goalkeeper as he watched the shot and potentially interfering with his decision-making.
