Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has said that he is sorry his side lost to Inter three weeks ago as it decided their championship fate, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media yesterday.

Speaking during an interview on Sport Mediaset after the Coppa Italia match against Fiorentina on Wednesday night, via FCInternews, Massimiliano Allegri explained that the 1-0 defeat to Inter put an end to Juventus’ outside hopes of winning the Scudetto.

“Now the cup has to be put aside, we need to recover energy: at a certain point I turned around and there was no one to come on, they’ve been playing the same for four months.

“Will I still be here next year? Also in the next three years, not just for the next season. Here you always have to fight to win. I’m sorry we lost to Inter, that match decided the championship.”

Inter knew that if they did not win that match in turn, they would have no realistic hope of defending their crown. Juventus were in the same position and they had not lost a game in Serie A for months.

Hakan Calhanoglu’s penalty at the end of the first half was enough to secure a huge three points for Inter which got them back on form.

Juventus beat Fiorentina 2-0 which means that they will face Inter in the Coppa Italia final.
