AS Roma fans have expressed anger that Simone Sozza will referee the match between the Giallorossi and Inter because he was born in Milan, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport today, many fans on social media have complained that Simone Sozza was born in Milan and therefore should not be allowed to take charge of a game with a Milan team in it.

A crucial factor though is that the regulation prevents referees from taking charge of teams from the place where they live, but it does not stop them from taking charge of games featuring teams from the place where they were born.

Simone Sozza lives in Monza which is 24km away from Milan. It is also relevant that he has already refereed a game with AC Milan this season, the 4-0 Coppa Italia win over Lazio, and there was no controversy at all.
