Former AC Milan and Juventus coach Fabio Capello has said that Inter’s Coppa Italia semifinal win against AC Milan does not mean that they have now won the Scudetto, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Speaking during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport today, Fabio Capello explained that Inter’s Coppa Italia semi-final will certainly affect their rival in a psychological sense but it does not mean that they have won the Scudetto.

“It’s a push given by Inter to their rivals, especially from a psychological point of view. But let’s remember that this 3-0 only leads to an Italian Cup final, it doesn’t automatically give you the Scudetto: the fight is open and the next matches will be decisive.

“What is certain is that Inzaghi’s team left the San Siro with great confidence. They have found the conviction that they are strong from every point of view, even if the result does not say everything.”

He then suggested that AC Milan were unlucky to lose the match on Tuesday night despite the scoreline suggesting that they were not in the game.

“Milan did not deserve to lose, they had several chances that they did not take advantage of, but Inter have shown that they have very clear ideas and reiterated that they can play in many ways, not just one.

“Inzaghi understood what was the best way to enhance the characteristics of his players in relation to those of the opponents. This is precisely the main gift of a coach.”

When talking about inter’s loss of form in 2022 and then their resurgence in recent weeks, Fabio Capello said that whilst the coach can try as hard as he likes, it comes down to the leadership shown on the pitch by the players.

“The coach can give guidance, but in the key moments the luck is to have players who show leadership on the pitch. If you don’t have someone who drags the others, when everything goes well but especially when things go wrong, you won’t get anywhere.”

In terms of which players show that leadership and quality for Inter, Fabio Capello suggested that it is not just Marcelo Brozovic.

“There is a lot of talk about Brozovic, it seems that everything is linked to him. Sometimes almost in exaggerated form, as if you really couldn’t play without him.

“Obviously this is not the case, Inter have many other players of great quality, see Correa. Compared to Dzeko, he starts from behind and creates problems by taking out the defenders, as he did in the derby.”
