Former AC Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta has said that Simone Inzaghi will have exceeded expectations if Inter win the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking whilst on Sky Sport, via FCInternews, the legendary defender explained that the expectations for a team that lost key players in the summer were different.

“For me, yes, the expectations were different for a team that has lost players.”

If Inter win all of their remaining Serie A matches they will have clinched a second successive Serie A title. They are also now into the Coppa Italia final after beating AC Milan 3-0 at San Siro on Tuesday night in front of a packed crowd.

Alessandro Costacurta went on to explain that given Simone Inzaghi replaced one of the best coaches in the world in Antonio Conte and lost some key players that were important for the Scudetto win, the coach has certainly done a very good job.

“He replaced Conte who is one of the top five coaches in the world and lost key players from last year’s Scudetto team, Inzaghi has done a great job, also through the difficulties that for me are due to the compression of very difficult matches in a short period. We had foreseen some problems for Inter between January and February and this happened.”
