Inter and AC Milan’s desire to have a lower capacity in their new stadium is linked to the costs of building a third tier of seating, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

As has been reported by Tuttosport today, the construction costs involved with building a third tier of seating are not sufficiently offset by the money that would be raised from those seats on each matchday.

Given they would be the highest seats in the ground, they would be the cheapest tickets. It is much more profitable for the clubs to have a larger hospitality section, although this comes at the expense of fans who want to see their team play live.

The intended capacity is 63,000 which is 12,000 less than what the current San Siro holds. It is worth noting though that attendances at the ground in the last few weeks have been much higher than 63,00 with only one exception, Inter vs Hellas Verona.
