Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi feels that the Nerazzurri have proven their worth with their recent winning run in Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after his team’s 3-1 win over Roma, the coach gave a very positive appraisal of the team’s recent run of wins and also singled out Giallorossi coach Jose Mourinho for praise.

Inter have made it five wins from five in all competitions since their return from the international break, a sequence which has seen them advance to the final of the Coppa Italia and re-take top spot in the Serie A table.

There is still plenty of work to do in both competitions and no guarantee of either trophy, but Inzaghi will feel that this is a good time in the season to be gaining momentum.

Inter have looked backed to playing some of their best football, and they can have a very strong finale to the season if they are able to keep this up.

On what his team needed to win the match against the Giallorossi, Inzaghi named “Concentration, because I was very worried about this match, which came three days after the derby in which we used up a lot of energy.”

“Roma are in good form, have significant quality, and haven’t lost in twelve matches,” he went on. “The guys did well.”

On what Lautaro Martinez has needed to get back into form in recent weeks, the coach named “Just goals, but it’s never been a problem.”

“He’s always had chances, he ‘s always trained well, now he’s in good form and we use him,” he continued. “He must keep going like this as must all our forwards.”

Of the match he said that”Roma matched up to us, in the first half they marked Brozovic and de Vrij man-to-man.”

“We had to prepare well and the boys played a good match,” he continued. “But it’s just a starting point – we were behind, and on Wednesday we finally play our match against Bologna.”

“For me this is a very important victory, and comes in a period where we also have to win the Coppa Italia final, which we’re very keen to do.”

“We’ll have to be good at managing our physical and mental resources for the next matches which are closely bunched together,” he added.

“But we’re ready,” the coach said, “we want to play to win, with our chests out. The last few matches have been a great sign.”

On the work of the wingbacks in the team, Inzaghi said that “They’re doing an important job. We knew Roma would be aggressive with heir center-backs on both sides, so there would be room for our wingbacks.”

“They did very well,” he continued. “Darmian had played very well on Tuesday, Dumfries was rested. And even Gosens, who is in very good form, will have his chance like everyone else.”

On the impact that Inter’s win over Juventus has had on the team psychologically, he said that “We needed a victory like that, I said that it came at the right time.”

“The results did not arrive,” he said of the run of bad form in February and March, “but the performances had never fallen off even during those two months.”

“Now we’ve strung a few wins together, but they are not yet enough,” he emphasized. “Today we were really good.”

On what he said to Mourinho after the match, Inzaghi said that “We wished each other good luck.”

“He’s always very kind, he is a special one,” he added. “Before the cup match we talked about football for a long time and it was a pleasure. I didn’t know him personally, he talked to me about it like I was a brother.”

And on whether he heard from his former Lazio players about facing the Biancocelesti’s city rivals, Inzaghi joked that “No, but I’m sure they’re cheering regardless.”
